Encryption and account security

Bubble Team uses end-to-end encryption in encrypted rooms so that message content can be read only on authorized participant devices.

Who can read my messages?

In an end-to-end encrypted room, message content is encrypted before leaving the sender’s device and decrypted on authorized participant devices. The server still processes delivery metadata. In an unencrypted room, content may be accessible to the homeserver operator.

Device verification

Verification helps confirm that a device belongs to the expected user. Review signed-in devices regularly, verify trusted devices and remove lost or unused devices.

Recovery key and chat backup

A recovery key protects encrypted keys stored in chat backup. Keep it outside Bubble Team in a trusted password manager or another safe location. S-K-S LLC cannot recover a lost recovery key. Without it or another verified device, older encrypted messages may become unreadable.

Identity changes and pinning warnings

A warning can appear when a user’s cryptographic identity changes unexpectedly. Confirm the change with the person through a trusted channel before continuing to share sensitive information.

Room history

Room history visibility determines which events a new member may receive. End-to-end encryption and server history settings both affect whether older messages can be read.

App Lock PIN

The regular App Lock PIN protects local access to Bubble Team. Do not share it with other people.

Emergency PIN and Secret Protocol

The optional Emergency PIN can be configured under the application’s security settings. Entering it on the lock screen immediately signs the account out on that device, clears local notifications and removes locally stored session data and encryption keys.

The Emergency PIN does not delete the Matrix account or server-side message history. After signing in again, server data may synchronize, but encrypted history can remain unreadable if its keys were not backed up.

Location

Bubble Team does not request device location and does not support sending live or static location in the current version.
